Planet Trip Hop 2 – Nu Underground Classics

This compilation makes me laugh. Firstly, it’s not “trip hop” at all. It’s more booty/miami/90s dance than anything else. 2nd, it’s one of the few CDs from my childhood that I can look back fondly on. I had to reorder it last week because I threw the original disc away <shrug> – it was a present from my mom for Christmas over 10 years ago. I must have been a Freshmen in HS. I remember listening to it over and over in my Aunt’s bathroom and then again on the couch when everyone had gone to sleep.

The songs are saturated with cheese synths, stoopid samples and trashy diva vocals. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

Yay! Rory Phillips is coming back to play NYC! Hopefully it will be better attended than last time, but who knows. I’m dying to hear more Sonic Youth with Solex and indie-house bleepage mixed with post punk shakers – Shack Up! (Secretly, if it’s not any good I’ll know that the reign of Trash and Durrr is truly over. I’m kidding of course)…(Man, I am super in need of a night of dancing. It just needs to be dark enough, late enough, twisted and bangin’. It just takes the right intro…and I’m there).
